Other places don’t have these problems. Most advanced democracies now use more inclusive and representative voting systems that:

• Let all voters vote sincerely and elect a representative they support
• Create parliaments that proportionately reflect how people voted
• Don’t give governments majority power unless they won a majority of the popular vote
• Encourage fair representation of women and visible minorities
• Elect opposition voices in all regions of the country

We have lots of options for change – we just need to create the political will to do so
